Ahhh...this folder, I came across on my computer desktop, brought tears to my eyes. Not sad tears...happy tears, mixed with "how very much I miss these beautiful people" tears...my family member's...my childhood! Truly the most wonderful people I have ever met in my lifetime. I don't foresee any replacements...impossible! So, I stare at these photo's and smile knowing that I will see them again one day. In another life? Who know's for sure...all I know is that, while I plow through every day given to me, I feel their presence...at times...and smell their perfume/cologne, or hear their voices in my head! No, I'm not crazy...just tuned in! I know they watch over me...I know they do...my guardian angels...*smile*
There weren't very many photo's is this folder...just a few! I am not sure why I photographed these images in particular? But I did...and here they are...
This photograph (below) is of my Great-Grandmother (maternal) when she was a little girl...we called her Nanny...
NOTE: Nanny's name was LaRue Price...she was married to Smith Price (my Great-Grandfather), who we called "Papa"...! Nanny owned a restaurant "Cross Roads" in Carrollton, Georgia. She was known for her chicken and dumplin's. Papa was an Attorney and a Journalist for the local news paper. He was known to be an "ambulance chaser"...! They had two children: Sylvia Ellen (my Grandmother) and Lanier (my Granduncle). We called my Grandmother, Granny...
So much more to tell about their lives, but I am saving all that for my book...*eyebrows going up and down*... so for now, this post is simply a quick glance at old photographs I found on my computer desktop! I must stay on track with my goal to edit and organize all my computer files...otherwise, you and I both would be sitting at this computer, reading, for yeeeears...Ha!
BELOW PHOTOGRAPH: Nanny holding two bottled soda's in front of her restaurant in Carrollton, Georgia...I assume it's her restaurant because I have noticed the railroad tracks in this photo, and I know the restaurant was near the tracks...plus, she is wearing her apron!
She fed a lot of people in Carrolton...people did not go hungry! She said to me (once) when I was a young woman,"Leigh, your Papa and I have made a lot of money in our lifetime...but we have given it all away to help people in need"...
BELOW: This is a picture of Nanny (L) and Granny (R)...
BELOW: Nanny (L), Papa (C) and their daughter (R), Granny. I was named after my Granny...my first name is Sylvia...I am proud of my name...
BELOW: Nanny holding my oldest child, Kayla Jo who is 26 years old today...
BELOW: My Grandmother...the love of my life...born Sylvia Ellen Price...man I miss this woman! A hole in my heart that will never heal...
BELOW: Granny and her friend, the squirrel...*smile* This picture says it all when it comes to the nature of Granny...not only did animals love her, so did people. When Granny was a young woman, my Nanny told me that if Granny was walking down the street, people from everywhere would stop to say hello to her! She was so loving and accepting...and funny as hell! Full of life and energy...people were drawn to her...
BELOW: Granny holding up a bream fish (pronounced "brim fish")...
BELOW: Granny...
The following three photographs are of my Granny and her daughter, born Katrina Ellen Boggs...
my Mother...
BELOW: A photograph of my Mother...quite lovely! I was not raised by my Mother...I was raised by my Father, Robert Lee Lemmings. I did not see my Mother for 20 years until I gave birth to my first born, Kayla Jo. When Mother and I reunited she would call me at all hours of the night...crying...telling me how sorry she was to have abandoned my sister and I...she wanted me to know that she thought about "us girls" every day! These calls went on for months until I finally told her, "Mother...if we try to catch up for the 20 years we have lost, we will always be 20 years behind...lets start with today...I love you Mother and I forgive you"...! We all make mistakes...! Mother died young at age 57...I am so glad I was able to get to know her before she passed away...
BELOW: This is a photograph of me when I was a few months old...
A close-up...heehee!
My Granny was married to a man with the last name Boggs and they had my Mother. The marriage did not last long...from what I understand Nanny did not approve of the marriage and it was annulled. Granny then married Phil Richardson who adopted my Mother. I grew up knowing Phil as my Grandfather and we called him Grand-pa-pa!
BELOW: Grand-pa-pa is pictured bottom/left...I drew a box around his photograph...
BELOW: Granny was a member of the "Keys and Cues Business Club"...she is amongst the crowd in the center of the back row...I drew a circle around her head...she was Sylvia Boggs at the time this photograph was taken...
BELOW: The headstone of Granny and Grand-pa-pa! Grand-pa-pa has passed away since this photograph was taken...he died in 2014...
My Father was a significant part of my childhood years, along with his parents...Bob and Ada Lemmings! Though I did not have photographs of them in this file, I do want to recognize them...I loved them very much! I would not be the person I am today without all of these people and the influences they had on my life...both positive and negative! I thank them every day! XO
